German mezzo-soprano Debora Kapsner is currently completing her Master of Music at the Freiburg University of Music under the tutelage of Prof. Mareike Morr.
In summer 2024, Debora made her opera solo debut as Signora Guidotti in Nino Rota's radio opera I DUE TIMIDI at Theater Freiburg through a collaboration between the theater and the Freiburg University of Music. During her undergraduate degree in 2022, she sang in two other opera productions at the Freiburg University of Music: She sang a Student in BOCCACIO by Franz von Suppé and was part of the Choral Ensemble in CENDRILLON by Pauline Viardot .
In the current semester, Debora Kapsner is looking forward to the role of Hermia in Britten's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, which will premiere at the Freiburg University of Music in January.
Having grown up in Weimar, she has been surrounded by culture, music and theater since her early childhood. She received violin and organ lessons at an early age and at the age of 11 she sang in the Schola Cantorum Weimar, a prominent children’s and youth choir, which gave her the opportunity to take part in various opera productions at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar. She sang in various productions of Engelbert Humperdinck's HÄNSEL AND GRETEL and as the First Boy in Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE.
After graduating from high school, she began studying Elementary Music Education with singing as her main concentration, but soon switched to the class of Mareike Morr and has dedicated herself fully to singing ever since.
She has received further vocal inspiration through masterclasses from renowned singers and coaches like Christa Mayer, Muriel Corradini, Julia Rempe, Gudrun Bär, Noelle Turner, Dorothea Wirtz and Thorsten Mayer.
Debora Kapsner has sung regularly in the Anton Webern Choir Freiburg for several years, also as an alto soloist and in the Ensemble Messiaen. She has gained a lot of experience in church services and concerts in and around Freiburg, thereby expanding her concert repertoire.
In November 2023, she performed with the Freiburg Bach Choir as a soloist at the Vokalakademie in Mendelssohn's ELIJAH at the Konzerthaus Freiburg.
